10/11 | Everyday Mending + Lunch with Tommy Huang and Sonoko Sakai
Date: Saturday, October 11, 2025
Time: 10:00AM to 2:00PM PST
Location: Provided upon enrollment.
Join me for my Late Summer Workshop - Season 1 of my new series of restoration and preservation workshops I will be offering.
Learn to mend and extend the life of your clothing and accessories in this workshop, where we’ll be covering a variety of mending and darning* techniques. Combine and experiment using just a handful of simple stitches: running, spaced back, seed, whip, and buttonhole stitches. You can bring your own item to repair or just practice using provided scraps. A homemade Yakuzen Curry lunch by Sonoko will be served following the workshop.
*Darning is a method of mending where you weave new threads over a damaged area of fabric. Depending on the fabric and thread, it can be near invisible, or you can use contrasting colors and textures to repair and accent instead.

About Tommy Huang
Tommy Huang is an artist and designer who works primarily with ceramics and textiles. He’s inspired by traditions of handwork, especially the kinds of making that value resourcefulness—mending, reusing, and working with what’s on hand. Whether in clay or in fabric, he practices those ideas by arranging, layering, and piecing things together like a puzzle, reusing scraps and offcuts in the process. It’s about making sure nothing goes to waste, and in the process finding beauty in what might ordinarily be discarded. He has previously collaborated with dosa, Green Dragon Office, and Frere-Jones Type.
