Workshop Details:
In Japan, the entire first week of the new year is spent eating only Ozoni soup for every single meal. The first three days are the most important of all.
In this workshop, you’ll learn to make this very traditional and very delicious soup, along with all its components and a few extra surprises! We’ll also delve into the rituals associated with these foods and this auspicious time of year. Learn it just before the new year begins, so that you can ring it in on the right note, with all the symbolic Japanese foods.
WHAT IS MOCHI?
Mochi is a sticky, chewy rice cake made of mochigome (sweet rice, also called glutinous rice). Mochi has served as nourishment for the Japanese people since ancient times; the ritual of pounding sweet rice is a traditional event in preparation for the New Year.
