April 26 | *IN PERSON* Spring Dumpling Workshop with Sonoko Sakai & Tommy Huang

$245.00

Date: April 26, 2026

Time: 10:00AM to 1:00PM PST

Location: Sonoko’s Studio & Kitchen. Location details provided upon registration.

Join Sonoko Sakai and artist-potter Tommy Huang for their second collaborative workshop — an intimate dumpling-making experience centered on both food and the vessels that complete the meal.

Sonoko will teach you how to prepare three dumpling dishes with a Wafu twist:

  • Savory Pork Dumplings Soup

  • Sweet Black Sesame Mochi Dumplings

  • Sweet Potato, Tofu & Ginger Mochi Dumplings

Tommy will present his handcrafted ceramic bowls made especially for this occasion and share insights into Chinese dumpling culture and tradition.

Each guest will enjoy their savory pork dumplings in one of Tommy’s handmade, wheelthrown bowls — and take the bowl home.

This workshop is part of Sonoko’s ongoing series devoted to renewal, preservation, and bringing community together through hands-on cooking.

Includes:

  • Dumpling workshop instruction

  • Shared meal with refreshments

  • One handcrafted ceramic bowl by Tommy Huang

Pottery and artisan pantry items will be available for purchase after the event. Location details provided upon registration.

About Tommy Huang
Tommy Huang (Studio Tomby) is an artist and designer working across ceramics, textile arts, and graphic design. From an early age, he was encouraged to sketch, make, and experiment by his father, an artist trained in Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital of China. These early explorations cemented Tommy’s interest in art and craft, and continue to shape his sensibilities today.

Using recycled materials, scrap, and whatever is on hand is central to his practice, and can be seen in his mended and patched textiles, and bowls made using laminated clay techniques. In both clay and fabric, each work uses remnants from the last, creating increasingly complex and unique patterns. Afterwards, reclaimed clay is used to wheel throw pots for his everyday functional ware.
